Body of child 'sold as prostitute by mother' found
The mother of a five-year-old girl has been charged with prostituting her daughter as police on Monday discovered the child's body hidden in woodland in North Carolina.

Shaniya Davis had not been seen since last Tuesday when a security camera recorded a man carrying her into a hotel room in Sanford, 40 miles from her home at a trailer park in Fayetteville.
Acting on a tip-off, 250 police officers and volunteers scoured a wooded area off a local main road, discovering the girl's body seven miles from the hotel.
Her mother, Antoinette Davis, 25, has been charged with human trafficking, child abuse involving prostitution and filing a false police report after she declared the little girl missing last week.
According to arrest papers quoted by the Fayetteville Observer, the mother "knowingly provide (d) Shaniya Davis with the intent that she be held in sexual servitude" and "permit (ted) an act of prostitution".
Police have also charged Mario Andrette McNeill, the 29-year-old man in the hotel surveillance video, with kidnapping.
The local highway patrol was also looking for a man aged about 60 who was spotted driving in the area where her body was found and who may have been with the girl after her disappearance.
Shaniya had only been living with her mother, who had a history of problems, since last month. Her father, Bradley Lockhart, had previously raised the child but had agreed to let her live with her mother after she got a regular job and a place to live.
"I should never have let her go over there," he said at the weekend.
Mr Lockhart said Shaniya was conceived during a "one-night stand" and that her mother had never objected to him raising the child alone.
Miss Davis's aunt, Leona Cromertie, said her niece also had a son and was pregnant.

I honestly did not expect this. I really thought they would have found her alive...and given to someone else..BECAUSE of what that mother was doing. This came as a total shock and deep sadness to me. I'm so sorry that beautiful young child was taken away like this. She had it so good with her father and my heart aches for him. He tried to do right to have her live both her cultures by allowing her to go live with her mother thinking she was going to do well. While he is more than probably suffering from guilt, I only hope that he can find it deep in his heart to know that his thinking in wanting Shaniya to have been raised in both her cultural backgrounds, and by both her biological parents..that his letting her live with her mother was not anything that he could have foresaw. What kind of person...a woman...a mother...does something so horrid...so cruel and so inhumane to a child? What man would take advantage of a beautiful little girl with eyes that were so bright and trusting? I am so sick to even think of what that child endured. I pray that God sent his angels to her side and protected her from any pain and knowledge of what was going on when they took her to heaven...where she will be safe, forever.

I have so many questions on this case.
playing the "devils advocate"...how do they know the child was sold for sex? Did they find proof in the home? My daughter said "well you saw him go into the hotel w her"...and I said "but that doesn't mean he had sex with her. Maybe he was waiting for someone else who was supposed to show up to take her and that person decided to meet him somewhere instead?" I mean...did he REALLY TAKE her into that hotel room and do something to her?
Why book a hotel room?
Why not just at home? Doesn't make sense.
Why did the mother phone 911 so early in the morn to say she was missing? Again..playing devils advocate here...why not wait until 3pm or something and say missing from nap? Why report her missing only moments after he walked out the door with her? Does this make sense? Just seems there is a lot more to all this than meets the eye. OR...did she give Shaniya to him the night before and not really at the time she stated she last saw her? We all know the mother lied....but I would really like to know the actual circumstances on what played out that the police and investigators deemed it sex trafficking of a child. Was there evidence on a computer? Photo's they found?
Why didn't red flags get raised by the hotel check in person? Did he check in the night before and already had that room? Because to me at that hour of the morning checking into a hotel w a child and no luggage would have been red flags! Especially around 6:30 am when a lot of the business people are havnig breakfast and checking out for the day. Just seems so much more that we haven't heard.
OHHHHHHHHHHH..and her poor father. Broke my heart to see him and his sister on the news tonite. Just so horrible. _________________ "The most important question to ask about any work is "how does this serve the world?"" ~ by Marianne Williamson |

I thought the mother confessed to selling the daughter for sex.
I'm trying hard not to get involved in this one ... it's just so awful. There is so much I want shaken out and the truth found before I do.
And the dad, well I understand he's had it hard, with his wife being murdered and I think 4 kids left without a mother. And then Antoinette was his kids' babysitter and he has sex with her, resulting in Shaniya. He could not raise the kids and the friends who were raising one of his children offered to also take Shaniya, but he refused.
Why he thought that being with her mother (after incidences of her coming home with cigarette burns on her) would be in her best interest, I do not know. I feel anger at him ...
Giving birth to someone does not make you a mother, although he thought it did. His daughter paid the price.
Yeah. Trying not to get involved. |

Well, we only heard the side from one person in the media...we still don't know the father's side as to the whole situation with the mother and why he gave Shaniya to her....and I guess I'm questioning if he gave the mother Shaniya a month ago...how would Shaniya have been back with him for him to know of the ciggarette burns..or for the friend who saw it to have seen it? Was she going back and forth between his home and hers? Isn't he from out of state? _________________ "The most important question to ask about any work is "how does this serve the world?"" ~ by Marianne Williamson |

Well, what gets me is that if they were cigarette burns as many of these people are saying (Dad says eczema) why wouldn't someone have called Child Services?
I don't know the time frame but there were visits to the mother according to this:
A close friend of Brad's, and his ex-father-in-law both say they offered to take in Shaniya rather than let her live with her mother, because they say when the child was in the custody of her mother, bad things happened to her.
"My wife says she saw cigarette burns on Shaniya's arms," said Brad's friend Tim Allen, who says he is very angry over what happened.
Byron Coleman, Brad's ex-father-in-law, said Shaniya "had burns on her legs, arms and things" after visits with her mother.

That case horrifies me. There IS a level of evil I never dreamed about. |

Shaniyas father and aunt were on Oprah this am. They answered some questions about the burns etc. I'm trying to locate that part of the show for you. I'll keep looking.
They did say the baby had some burns, but they were told they were accidents. How ever it was more than one time, which should have sent up some major red flags. Prayers for the little one. |

Shaq pays for slain girl's funerl
XShaquille O'Neal November 27, 2009
Shaquille O'Neal paid for the funeral of a 5-year-old North Carolina girl after being moved by national news coverage of the case of Shaniya Davis, whom police say was kidnapped and killed.
The Cavaliers center got in touch with the family to see what he could do to help, a spokeswoman for O'Neal said Thursday.
More than 2,000 people attended the girl's funeral Sunday. Her body was found Nov. 16 beside a rural road.
Her mother, Antionette Davis, is charged with human trafficking and child abuse involving prostitution. Mario McNeill is charged with murder, rape and kidnapping.
"I was sitting at home watching it on the news, and the story brought a tear to my eye," O'Neal told the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
